Richard Newman at 'The Rock Garden' at Covent Garden in London
In his career Richard Newman has :
produced and mixed albums from Geoff Bradford and Brian Knight for the Black Lion Jazz Label. Geoff and Brian were two of the Founding Fathers of the London Blues Rock Scene of the late fifties and early sixties, along with Cyril Davies and Alexis Korner.
Contributed to the legendary Capital Radio Night Flight programmes produced by Robbie Barrish in the early seventies.
Devised, wrote and presented his own Channel Four documentary called ‘Living with the Blues’, which was about the evolution of the London Blues Rock Scene, which featured performances from Geoff Bradford, who had been the Lead Guitarist with Long John Baldry’s Hoochie Coochie Men and was the guitar player that Brian Jones originally approached in the early stages of forming up his new band that eventually became the Rolling Stones.
Wrote the book about the making of Mike Oldfield’s ‘Tubular Bells’.
Co-wrote the book about the Cambridge Folk Festival with Dave Laing.
Did a major interview with Peter Green for ‘Guitarist’ magazine.
Richard Newman is a world class virtuoso guitar player, song writer, record producer and mixing specialist. In recent times, Richard has released an album featuring his slide guitar playing, appropriately called ‘Slide Guitar’, which is available world wide.
Along with international photographer, Fran May, Richard has created three albums for her project 'Brave On lady'.
In the early 80’s, Richard produced and created three albums for Loren Auerbach, that featured sixteen of Richard’s songs, with guitar playing from Bert Jansch and Richard Newman throughout. In 2016 this work was reissued as a three album vinyl set and in August of 2016 was released as a 3 CD set as well as being available on Spotify and iTunes and most of the other major streaming platforms. The project was called ‘Colours are Fading Fast’ , which is taken from the lyrics of one of Richard’s songs. Richard put this project together and produced and mixed many of the tracks himself. The project was released by Earth Records.
